Dad was hired right out of college to start working for Otis Elevator. He worked in the Chicago headquarters for over 30 years. Some of the numerous projects that he worked on and help build were the Sears Tower, John Hancock Building and O'Hare Airport in Chicago, the former World Trade Center towers in New York (and some say that he had a hand in the design of the elevators in the Tower of Babel). He designed the elevator and escalator systems that went into these buildings.
I have been told that he could do more business on the back of a cocktail napkin than anyone. He was able to estimate to the dollar the cost of projects after just getting some basic information about it.
He once did a private project for the comedian Rodney Dangerfield in his house.
He was known all over the world for his abilities of calculation, engineering skills and business acumen.
